Alex

Ontario Goaltender | Future NCAA\USPORT Prospect

Overview

When Alex and I began working together, our sessions were purely on-ice. A driven young goaltender, she had already climbed through multiple levels of hockey with grit and consistency, in a very short period of time. But over the last season, our work evolved far beyond technique.

Key Focus Areas

  1. Performance development (on-ice + video review)

  2. Mental consistency and mindset training

  3. Navigating competitive team dynamics

Elevating The Game

This season, we introduced video performance reviews as a regular part of our bi-weekly sessions. These reviews allowed us to identify technical trends, prep for upcoming opponents, and build greater game-to-game consistency.

But what made the biggest impact wasn’t just video or drills — it was preparing Alex for the realities of high-level hockey.

Mindset Shift

As playoffs approached, Alex faced a tough but common challenge — a change in goalie rotation strategy, with her coach choosing to ride the hot hand rather than split games evenly. It was a real-world example of what many goalies experience as they climb the ranks: coaching decisions driven by winning, not rotation fairness.

Together, we focused on:

  • Understanding the business side of competitive hockey

  • Separating personal value from situational decisions

  • Building emotional resilience and control

  • Creating tools to help Alex lock in and find her “happy place” on the ice

Results

With maturity and buy-in, Alex responded like a pro. She leaned into the strategies we built, remained focused, and when her number was called — she delivered.

  • Played meaningful playoff minutes

  • Earned starts in Provincials

  • Recognized by her coaches for clutch performances

Her story this season is proof that talent takes you far — but mindset, adaptability, and preparation take you even further.

Final Thoughts

Alex’s growth as a goalie and competitor this season is something she earned. It was a privilege to support her development both on and off the ice. We’re just getting started.

My confidence and consistency have improved substantially this season by having a coach and mentor who provides tools to make me a better goalie. Having someone outside of my team to give constant feedback and opinion has helped me before and after games, practices, tough spots in the season, and tryouts. Working with Austin has really helped my skills, mindset, focus, consistency, and confidence. Allowing me to become an overall better goalie.
